Organic means that produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, genetically modified organisms or ionizing radiation. Organic also applies to animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products without taking growth hormones or antibiotics.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program has 3 ways to label organic food and for each product, a certifier inspects where the food is grown, handled, processed and the means in which it is distributed.
