Sarah Finnie Robinson

Sarah Finnie Robinson likes start-ups. She started a magazine as a Princeton undergrad, and 20 years later she was the launch programming director at iVillage.com. In between, she worked at The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly magazines, served on the board of Seventh Generation and the steering committee for Shelburne Farms — and along the way she had three kids. She was mindlessly chucking batteries and kitchen scraps into her trash when her husband Jack met her ten years ago. She has since converted to his green ethos, and then some.

Favorite Green Action taken: Composting. She loves putting scraps to good use in the garden.

Least Favorite Green Action Taken: Recycling things that aren’t convenient to recycle: cell phones, batteries, lightbulbs, behemoth old stereo speakers.

Working on: Building an energy-efficient house. And, persuading Jack to stop rinsing the heck out of the dinner plates before he puts them in the dishwasher.

Lauren Mason

Lauren is an intern for Practically Green and was officially the #1 Practically Green team member–beating out everyone else by 2 days. She is pursuing a degree in Communications & Business at Northeastern University.

Lauren was lucky to have a mom who always enforced a “no shoe” rule in the house and encouraged healthy eating and habits. Working on the Practically Green Glossary and other research projects has also convinced Lauren to switch to organic and all-natural personal care products, “green” her apartment, and constantly remind her roommates to turn off the lights and recycle!

Favorite Green Action Taken: switching to organic shampoo and conditioner (the real stuff smells so good!)

Least Favorite Green Action Taken: saying goodbye to her Orbit gum…

Working on: switching from conventional cleaning products to all-natural products

Margie McNally

Margie is a licensed Interior Designer in Massachusetts and a LEED AP (USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional who has been practicing green for over twenty years. Due to her own asthma and allergies, Margie started researching the subject of healthy indoor air quality and how building and decorating materials as well as household products can affect health.

She has worked for organizations that promote good indoor air quality and health including The American Lung Association as Environmental Program Coordinator with the Tools for Schools Program and Conservation Services Group as a Program Coordinator for Energy Star Homes. Currently, Margie works as a consultant on green interior design projects as well as a teacher for The Boston Architectural College in their Sustainable Design Program along with other local community college programs.

Favorite Green Action Taken: Banning plastic water bottles and coffee cups to go by replacing them with reusable travel mugs filled with water and homemade brewed coffee…organic fair trade of course.

Least Favorite Green Action Taken: Cutting short the morning hot shower and eliminating the use of toxic cosmetics such as hairspray.

Working on: Composting kitchen scraps.

Jason Butler

Jason ButlerJason Butler is the resident geek on the Practically Green team. He has been working at Internet companies since 1996, at PlanetAll, Amazon.com, Abuzz, New York Times Digital and the Boston Globe. He has founded two startups, most recently Serendeputy, a personal news assistant. Jason is a die-hard Patriots fan and a Red Sox season-ticket holder.

Jason lives just outside Boston with his wife and daughters. He is trying to become a little more green to help keep them healthier.

Favorite Green Action Taken: Switching to glass bowls for heating all the leftovers and vegetables in the microwave. No more microwaving plastic!

Least Favorite Green Action Taken: Switching from paper towels to reusable kitchen towels. Still working on how to make these equally as effective.

Working on: A green move. The Butler household is moving 45 minutes north this summer. Is it possible to do this in a Practically Green way?
